The Anambra State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) is set to honour distinguished Nigerians for their outstanding contributions across various sectors at its upcoming awards ceremony in Awka, the state capital.
Among those listed for recognition are the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, who will receive the “New Sheriff in Town” award for redefining security in the state, and the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Charles Soludo, Christian Aburime, who will be honoured as Media Personality of the Year. An entrepreneur identified as Lovebite will also be decorated as Entrepreneur of the Year.

According to a statement issued by the Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee for NAWOJ’s International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration, Ifeyinwa Oduah, the awards are aimed at celebrating excellence and inspiring women across the state.
Other notable awardees include former Senator representing Anambra Central, Uche Ekwunife, who will receive the Political Icon Award, and Nollywood actress Ngozi Ezeonu, named Actress of the Year.

Also to be honoured are Ifyv Aronu as Broadcaster of the Year; Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Chioma Irene Awuzie; Beverley Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche; Oge Ekweozor; Anambra State Women Leader of APGA, Esther Onyejesi; Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Vera Nkiruka Nwadinobi; and humanitarian Helen Ngozi Eze.
Speaking ahead of the event, the State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Tochukwu Ifejika, said the awards were designed to set standards and provide role models for women and girls to emulate.
She noted that the ceremony, which coincides with this year’s International Women’s Day, underscores the importance of recognising women’s achievements and promoting gender inclusion.
Ifejika emphasised that the era of limiting women to domestic roles was over, calling for greater inclusion of women in decision-making processes across all levels of government.
She also commended Governor Soludo for appointing female technocrats into key positions, describing him as a gender-friendly leader.
The NAWOJ chair further praised the governor’s wife, Nonye Soludo, for her continued support for women journalists and the media profession.
The awards ceremony is expected to draw key stakeholders from government, media, and civil society across the state.
