The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has revealed the promotion of 74,352 officers across various ranks nationwide, covering the period from January 2025 to date.
A breakdown of the promotion exercise shows that senior officers were elevated across strategic command levels, including 11 officers promoted from Assistant Inspector-General to Deputy Inspector-General, while 45 Commissioners of Police advanced to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General. Similarly, 69 Deputy Commissioners moved up to Commissioners, and 156 Assistant Commissioners were promoted to Deputy Commissioners.
Mid-level officers also benefitted significantly, with 270 Chief Superintendents elevated to Assistant Commissioners, 1,014 Superintendents promoted to Chief Superintendents, and 615 Deputy Superintendents advancing to the rank of Superintendent.
In addition, 980 Assistant Superintendents I were promoted to Deputy Superintendents, while 13,496 Assistant Superintendents II moved to Assistant Superintendents I.
At the junior cadre level, the exercise saw 30,828 Inspectors promoted to Assistant Superintendents II, 16,970 Sergeants elevated to Inspectors, 8,840 Corporals promoted to Sergeants, and 58 Police Constables advanced to Corporals.
Reacting to concerns and allegations surrounding the promotion process, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, dismissed claims of irregularities, insisting that the exercise was conducted with integrity.
“We will not be swayed by those who trade in falsehood or seek to undermine the integrity of our institution. There is no promotion scandal in the Nigeria Police Force. What we have is a system that rewards diligence, professionalism and proven capacity,” the IGP stated.
The police leadership described the promotion process as transparent and merit-driven, stressing that the Force remains committed to rewarding diligence, professionalism, and proven capacity. It also dismissed claims of irregularities, reaffirming that the promotion system is designed to strengthen morale and enhance operational effectiveness within the Force.
The update was released by the Force Public Relations Department as part of efforts to clarify the scope and integrity of the ongoing promotion exercise.
