In a major boost to security and youth inclusion, the Nigerian Army has commenced construction of an additional training depot at Amasiri-Edda in Afikpo and Edda LGAs of Ebonyi State, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to expand military training capacity.
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who performed the groundbreaking on Wednesday, thanked the President and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, for bringing the project to Ebonyi State.

The governor said the facility would increase recruitment opportunities for South-East youths and strengthen the Army’s contribution to peace and socio-economic development in the state.
Representing the COAS, Major General Oluremi Fadairo said the project aligns with the President’s vision of equitable military infrastructure and inclusive representation.

He urged South-East youths to maximize the opportunity, stressing that all states enjoy equal enlistment chances in the Nigerian Army.
Fadairo also emphasized the need for cooperation between the military and host communities, assuring that the depot would drive stability and development.

Land documents were formally handed over to the Nigerian Army and received by Major General V. U. Okoro, Chief of Training (Army), before the foundation-laying ceremony.
The Army now operates three training depots nationwide, reflecting its expanding manpower strategy.
According to Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, the initiative demonstrates the Army’s readiness to meet evolving security demands.
