The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and his Rwandan counterpart, Major General Vincent Nyakarundi, have participated in a fitness walk in Kigali, Rwanda, to promote physical fitness and strengthen military camaraderie between the Nigerian Army and the Rwanda Defence Force.
According to Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, the two army chiefs participated in the exercise at the Kigali Running Track on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Anele said the endurance walk was aimed at promoting physical fitness, strengthening professional relationships and reinforcing the bonds of cooperation between the two armies.

She explained that regular physical training remained essential to developing endurance, discipline and resilience among military personnel, while enhancing their operational readiness and ability to withstand the demands of military service.
Beyond its physical benefits, Anele noted that the exercise provided an opportunity for officers and personnel of both armies to deepen mutual trust, strengthen professional relationships and promote shared military values.

She added that such engagements foster interpersonal understanding, teamwork and the spirit of cooperation required for effective collaboration and mission success.
