The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against organised crime with the arrest of eight suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate linked to violent attacks and the hijacking of trailer trucks along the Papalanto-Ilaro and Owode-Idiroko corridors of the state.
The intelligence-led operation led to the recovery of a hijacked trailer truck, nine hundred (900) bags of cement and a locally fabricated single-barrel pistol, underscoring the Command’s renewed focus on dismantling criminal supply-chain networks.

According to the Command, the operation was initiated following directives by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, who tasked operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, to deploy intelligence assets, intensify surveillance and discreetly track the activities of the criminal gang.
Following weeks of sustained intelligence gathering, covert surveillance and crime pattern analysis, detectives successfully penetrated the syndicate and arrested eight key members at different locations across the state based on actionable intelligence. The suspects include Mogaji Sodiq (a.k.a. “Ogbonṣ”), Adebowale Lekan, Ajah Peter, Ganiyu Razaq, Odeleye Ayoola, Egboja Amos, Bello Akeem and Olaifa Sunday.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had conveyed the hijacked trailer truck after offloading most of the stolen cement at a warehouse, which was first traced and recovered by operatives. Subsequent follow-up operations led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel pistol believed to have been used during their criminal operations.
Police investigations further established that the syndicate had been involved in previous robberies, with emerging evidence pointing to a well-organised network targeting commercial logistics and supply chains across the state.
Intelligence efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, while detectives continue to unravel their wider criminal network, including accomplices and logistics channels.
The suspects, the Police said, will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reaffirming the Command’s resolve, the Commissioner of Police reiterated Ogun State Police Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention and the protection of lives and property.
He assured residents and road users that sustained operations against organised crime would continue across the state.
The Police also urged members of the public to support security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines: Gateway Shield (Toll-Free General Complaints Line) on 0800 000 9111, and emergency numbers 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369 and 0708 497 2994.
