The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on crime, arresting four suspects and recovering four firearms with 17 cartridges in a series of coordinated operations across Mowe, Sagamu and Odeda.
The Command said the arrests followed intelligence-led raids and proactive patrols aimed at flushing out cultists, illegal gun runners and other criminal elements from the state.
Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said one of the suspects, 36-year-old Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, was arrested on April 14 around Mowe Bus Stop after officers acted on a tip-off from a resident.
According to the statement, a search on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel pistol, one expended cartridge and charms concealed in his bag.

He reportedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.
In another operation on April 17, operatives of the Quick Response Squad intercepted a Bajaj motorcycle at Lafarge along Sagamu/Ogijo Road and arrested 30-year-old Asaye Ajibola. Officers reportedly recovered a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges from him.
A day later, another QRS team operating in the same axis arrested 49-year-old Adedeji Olufemi after intercepting a Honda motorcycle. He was allegedly found with a locally made double-barrel gun and eight cartridges.

Meanwhile, in Odeda Local Government Area, police arrested a local vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku, after an accidental shooting incident at Sawmill area of Osiele on April 18.
Preliminary investigation showed that the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm accidentally while returning from the farm, injuring three persons.
Police said the firearm was recovered in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps, while the injured victims were rushed to hospitals and are now responding to treatment.

The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended officers involved in the operations and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-driven offensives against illegal firearms, cultism and violent crimes across the state.
