The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has repelled coordinated terrorist attacks in Adamawa and Borno States, killing scores of insurgents during follow-up operations.
The Acting Media Information Officer of the task force, Lieutenant SA Atokolo, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

According to Atokolo, the first attack occurred at Sabon Gari in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
“Terrorists attempted to overrun a patrol base under Sector 4 of Operation HADIN KAI in the early hours of January 16, 2026,” he said.

He stated that “alert troops swiftly engaged the attackers, supported by reinforcements from Gulak and the Battalion Quick Reaction Force.”
Atokolo said the terrorists were repelled without any casualty to troops or loss of military equipment.

He added that troops later cleared and scanned the area for Improvised Explosive Devices and booby traps.
In a related development, Atokolo said terrorists launched a large-scale, multi-directional attack on Forward Operating Base Azir in Borno State.

“They initially breached part of the defensive perimeter but were met with sustained firepower from our troops,” he said.

The OPHK spokesman explained that air assets were deployed, leading to a prolonged firefight that lasted over an hour.

According to him, the terrorists were eventually forced to withdraw.

He said Rocket Propelled Grenade fire affected some Troop Carrying Vehicles and the CCTV control room, but troops maintained control of the base.
“Follow-up air strikes along the withdrawal routes neutralised additional scores of the terrorists,” Atokolo added.

He reaffirmed that operations will continue until all threats in the North East are eliminated.
