The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has commended the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for what it described as transformational leadership and significant institutional reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement signed by Olayemi Esan, Director, Global Communications and Media Relations, the National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Ibraheem Mogaji Olaniyan, said Egbetokun’s appointment on June 19, 2023, by President Bola Tinubu as the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police was strategic and well-deserved.
Olaniyan noted that Egbetokun’s previous roles, including Chief Security Officer to the Lagos State Governor, Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, Area Commander in Osogbo and Gusau, and Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, prepared him adequately for leading the Force.
He stated that under Egbetokun’s leadership, the Police adopted three strategic approaches—confrontation, suppression and accommodation—with emphasis on intelligence-led and community-based policing in line with democratic standards.
The PCRC Chairman highlighted the establishment of the Police Special Intervention Squad and nationwide contact centres to enhance real-time reporting and rapid response to crime.
He also commended reforms in personnel welfare, including the Annual Nigeria Police Awards, rehabilitation of barracks, infrastructure upgrades, and the commissioning of the Nigeria Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja.
Olaniyan welcomed the appointment of the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressing confidence in his capacity to deepen reforms and strengthen community policing.
The PCRC reaffirmed its commitment to sustained collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in promoting public safety and national security.
