The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has described the Police Community Relations Committee as a critical partner in policing and community security.
Disu made this known while receiving the leadership of the PCRC at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The disclosure was contained in a statement e-signed by Olayemi Esan, Director of Global Communications and Media Relations of the PCRC.
The IGP praised the committee’s contributions to the Nigeria Police Force, including infrastructure support and intelligence gathering.
He also shared a personal story about his father’s long-standing involvement in the organisation.

“My father has been a member of the PCRC for many years… I grew up watching him support the police,” he said.
Disu recalled how the PCRC and retired police officers helped maintain calm during a period of tension in Rivers State.
“When there was tension, I reached out to retired police officers and the PCRC… the state remained calm,” he said.
He urged the group to maintain direct communication with police leadership to reduce bureaucracy but warned against misuse of PCRC identity.
“No one should hide behind any identity card while doing what is wrong,” he added.

In his remarks, the PCRC National Chairman, Ibrahim Mogaji Olaniyan, reaffirmed the committee’s support for the police.
He said the organisation would celebrate its 42nd anniversary on May 7, 2026, and had honoured 71 officers, with plans to recognise nine more.
Olaniyan also disclosed plans to collaborate with the police to sensitise students against cultism and other social vices.
