Police Foil Midnight Hostel Robbery In Ogun, Arrest Two, Recover 11 Phones

A distress call in the early hours of Sunday helped police foil an alleged robbery at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro, Ogun State, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of 11 iPhones, a laptop and other stolen belongings.
According to a statement signed by DSP OLUSEYI B BABASEYI, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on 16th September 2026, the incident occurred at about 2:40am on 13th September 2026, when an anonymous caller alerted the police that an armed gang was robbing students at a hostel in the community.
Operatives of the Ewekoro Division were immediately dispatched to the scene by the Divisional Police Officer.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the suspected robbers abandoned a school bag containing their loot and attempted to escape when they sighted the approaching officers.
The police gave chase and arrested two suspects identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun.
A search of the abandoned bag reportedly led to the recovery of 11 assorted iPhones, one HP laptop and various items of clothing. The Command said victims of the robbery had subsequently identified the recovered property as theirs.
Preliminary investigation also revealed that the robbers allegedly forced one of the victims to transfer ₦200,000 into an account during the operation.
Detectives have visited the scene, documented evidence of forced entry and secured the recovered exhibits, the Command said.
Search warrants executed at the suspects’ residences reportedly produced no additional incriminating items.
The two suspects and the recovered property are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, police operatives are continuing efforts to apprehend other members of the gang and trace the owner of the account into which the alleged ₦200,000 transfer was made.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ewekoro operatives for their vigilance and quick response to the distress call.
Ojajuni reassured students and residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged hostel operators and landlords to maintain emergency contact numbers and promptly report security threats or suspicious activities.
