The Lagos State Police Command has foiled a security threat directed at two private schools in Ikeja following a swift, intelligence-driven response personally led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the incident was reported on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, at about 4:00pm, by the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of the affected schools.
According to her, the officials separately reported to the Ikeja Divisional Headquarters that they received threatening WhatsApp messages from the same unknown number.
Adebisi said that immediately the reports were received, the Commissioner of Police mobilised and led a team comprising operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and other tactical teams to the school premises.
She explained that a comprehensive security sweep was conducted across classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds and surrounding areas to detect any Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or suspicious materials.
“The operation yielded no explosive or hazardous device, and the schools were consequently declared safe for continued academic and administrative activities,” she stated.
The police spokesperson disclosed that CP Jimoh has ordered intensified investigations to identify and arrest the sender(s) of the threat messages.
She added that combined teams of police personnel have been strategically deployed on a permanent basis to the affected schools to ensure round-the-clock safety.
Adebisi reassured parents, guardians, school authorities and members of the public that the Command remains proactive, responsive and committed to maintaining peace and security in Lagos State.
She urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activity through the nearest police station or the emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870 and 09168630929.
