The Oyo State Police Command has neutralised three suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim during a coordinated security operation in Otu, located in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.
The command said the operation was carried out in collaboration with local hunters and other security agencies as part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crimes across the state.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the operation followed a distress call received on May 25, 2026, from local hunters who reportedly came under attack while on a hunting expedition in Otu.
The statement disclosed that no casualty was recorded among the hunters during the initial attack.
Acting on the intelligence, police operatives, local hunters and other security personnel were mobilised to the area, where the suspected kidnappers allegedly opened fire on the security team.
The command stated that the operatives responded tactically and overpowered the criminals, leading to the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers.
During the operation, an abducted victim identified as Mosudi Gbolagade, said to have been kidnapped earlier at Okaka, was rescued from captivity within the Otu area.
The victim reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Security operatives also recovered one AK-47 rifle, one single-barrel gun and a machete from the scene.
The command, however, disclosed that one of the local hunters involved in the operation sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Commending the bravery of the security team and local hunters, the Commissioner of Police praised the collaboration that led to the successful operation.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements across the state and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
