Ruggedman Breaks New Ground With AI-Generated ‘OG’ Music Video, Sparks Industry Debate

Veteran Nigerian rapper and hip-hop icon Ruggedman has stirred conversations across the entertainment and technology sectors with the release of a fully AI-generated music video for his hit track, “OG.”
The groundbreaking visual, created entirely by digital creator The Graphics Messiah, is being touted as a potential first in the Nigerian music industry, prompting discussions over whether Ruggedman has become the first Nigerian artist to release a 100 per cent AI-generated music video.
“OG,” produced by BLVCKSAUCE, features an all-star lineup of Nigerian rap heavyweights, including Uzikwendu, Jesse Jagz, Eva Alordiah and Mista Styles.
To complement the song’s lyrical depth and energy, the visual production dispenses entirely with conventional filmmaking techniques such as cameras, physical sets and traditional post-production editing. Instead, artificial intelligence was used to create an immersive futuristic visual experience.
The song is one of the standout tracks from Ruggedman’s acclaimed 2024 project, The Michael Stephens Experiment EP, which has continued to gain traction across major streaming platforms.
According to the project team, the AI-powered visual offers a fresh interpretation of the song while positioning Ruggedman at the intersection of African music, innovation and emerging technology.
“As the industry evolves, pioneers don’t just adapt, they set the pace. With ‘OG,’ we wanted to explore a completely uncharted territory in Nigerian visual storytelling,” the team stated.
The release has also sparked broader conversations about the future of music video production in Africa and the growing role of artificial intelligence in creative industries.
Industry observers say the fusion of AI-generated animation with Nigerian hip-hop aesthetics could signal a new era for visual storytelling within Afrobeats and rap culture.
The “OG” music video is currently available on Ruggedman’s TikTok, Instagram and Facebook platforms, while fans can stream The Michael Stephens Experiment EP on major digital music platforms worldwide.
