The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, has recorded a major revenue boost, generating N3,480,970,924.67 in February 2026, even as the month remains ongoing a sharp rise from the N743,698,652.16 recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Wale Adenuga, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ engagement organised by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission, the ECOWAS Agricultural Trade Programme, and GIZ International. The event, held in Badagry on Wednesday, was themed “Empowering Cross-Border Traders through Trade Information Desk for Agricultural Traders.”
Representing the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Adenuga attributed the impressive revenue performance to seamless trade facilitation measures introduced at the Command.
“For this February that has not yet ended, we have already generated N3,480,970,924.67 as against N743,698,652.16 generated in February 2025. This clearly shows that the flow of trade is getting better and people are building greater confidence in the Seme–Krake corridor,” he said.
The CAC assured cross-border traders, farmers, and other stakeholders that the reduction in checkpoints along the Seme–Gbaji axis followed sustained collaboration with other security agencies operating within the corridor.
He clarified that only Agbara and Gbaji remain officially approved Customs checkpoints along the strategic Lagos–Abidjan route.
Adenuga further noted that crime rates along the Seme-Gbaji axis have declined significantly due to monthly joint border security meetings involving all agencies at the post.
According to him, the inter-agency engagements have enhanced intelligence sharing, strengthened cooperation, and improved response to security threats, thereby creating a safer and more enabling trade environment.
While highlighting revenue generation and trade facilitation as top priorities, the Command also reaffirmed its commitment to combating illicit activities.
Adenuga disclosed that operatives recently intercepted a Toyota Highlander conveying 22 packages of cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding N1 billion, following credible intelligence shared by the Comptroller-General.
In addition, the Command seized 1,000 bags of 50kg parboiled rice in February 2026 alone, reinforcing its resolve to suppress smuggling and safeguard Nigeria’s economic borders.
The Seme Area Command reiterated its commitment to sustained collaboration with traders, farmers, sister security agencies, and regional partners to consolidate gains in trade facilitation and border security along the Lagos-Abidjan corridor.
