Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State, rescuing two kidnapped victims and recovering 157 rounds of PKT ammunition during separate operations in Kaduna and Sokoto states.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt Col Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the operations were conducted on September 12 and 13, 2026.
Danja said troops of Sector 1, while conducting a stop-and-search operation along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road on September 12, intercepted a man identified as Yohana Musa who was allegedly in possession of a large quantity of illicit drugs and substances while travelling to Birnin Gwari.
He said the suspect and the recovered items remained in troops’ custody for further investigation.
In Sokoto State, Danja said troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call following a terrorist attack at Unguwan Lalle in Sabon Birni Local Government Area on September 13.
According to him, the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disarray, while two kidnapped victims were rescued during the operation.
Danja said troops, acting on further information about an attempt by the terrorists to regroup, swiftly mobilised to the location and re-established contact with the fleeing elements.
He said the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, again forcing them to withdraw, while further exploitation of the area led to the recovery of 157 rounds of PKT ammunition, phone batteries and other items.
The JTF spokesperson said the Theatre Commander commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism in sustaining the operational successes.
Danja said the Theatre Commander remained resolute in denying terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces in support of ongoing military operations.
