Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralized a terrorist, rescued three kidnapped victims, and recovered a cache of arms, equipment, and logistics during ongoing counter-banditry operations in Zamfara State.
The successful operations were conducted across Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of sustained efforts to rid the state of banditry and other criminal activities.
Security sources disclosed that on June 12, 2026, troops on a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa communities in Zurmi Local Government Area made contact with a group of terrorists operating in Yanbuki District.
During the ensuing firefight, the troops engaged the criminals and neutralized one terrorist. Items recovered from the scene included rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest.

The sources said the troops maintained pressure on the fleeing terrorists and advanced toward Sabon Garin Daudawa. However, upon sensing the superior firepower and determination of the advancing troops, the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled before the troops arrived.
Troops subsequently cleared the area and completely destroyed the terrorists’ enclave, denying the criminals a safe haven for future operations.

In a related development, troops rescued three kidnapped victims during clearance operations in the area. The victims were successfully freed from captivity and evacuated to safety.
Military authorities reiterated their commitment to sustaining offensive operations across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region until all terrorist and bandit elements are dismantled and lasting peace is restored to affected communities.
