Troops Repel Coordinated ISWAP Infiltration Attempts Across Borno, Force Terrorists to Retreat

The Nigerian military has foiled multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected ISWAP terrorists across several locations in Borno State, forcing the insurgents into a chaotic retreat after intense engagements with troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KA
The successful operation was disclosed in a statement signed by Captain MOHAMMED GONI, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, who said the coordinated attacks were repelled in the early hours of Thursday, 10 July 2026, following swift military response enabled by effective early warning mechanisms.
According to the statement, between 0020 hours (12:20 a.m.) and 0230 hours (2:30 a.m.), the terrorists launched coordinated infiltration attempts through Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross axis, with the apparent objective of gaining access into the Maiduguri metropolis.
However, troops detected the advancing terrorists early and engaged them simultaneously from multiple directions with what the military described as accurate and overwhelming firepower, effectively frustrating all attempts by the insurgents to breach the city.
The military further disclosed that troops also repelled separate infiltration attempts at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai. During the pursuit of fleeing terrorists in Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), although no casualty was recorded among the troops.
According to the statement, the rapid tactical response by the troops overwhelmed the terrorists, compelling them to abandon their mission and retreat in disarray across all operational axes.
Operation HADIN KAI said troops are currently conducting clearance and exploitation operations to track the fleeing terrorists, consolidate operational gains, dominate the affected areas and prevent any further threat to surrounding communities.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive offensive operations against terrorist groups to deny them freedom of action and ensure the protection of lives and property across the North East. It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies in support of ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
