Troops Rescue 48 Kidnap Victims After Repelling Terrorists’ Attack in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped residents after engaging terrorists in a fierce gun battle following an early morning attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the operation was launched after troops of Sector 2 received a distress call that a large group of terrorists had invaded the community.
According to the statement, the attackers, numbering about 40 and riding on motorcycles, stormed Magami village in the early hours of Saturday, rounded up scores of residents and attempted to whisk them away into the bush, while another group waited on the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles.
Danja said troops responded swiftly to the distress call and, on arrival, engaged the terrorists in a fierce exchange of gunfire, forcing them to abandon the abducted victims and flee into the surrounding forest.
He said the prompt military intervention led to the successful rescue of all 48 kidnapped civilians.
The statement, however, disclosed that one civilian was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated to the General Hospital, Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving treatment.
Following the rescue mission, the troops carried out aggressive patrols across the area to dominate the general environment and prevent further attacks by the fleeing terrorists.
Commending the gallantry and professionalism of the troops, the Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the North West and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to sustain ongoing efforts to rid the region of terrorist elements.
