The Nigerian military has rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, wife of the late former Director Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar, following weeks of captivity in the hands of bandits, in an operation that saw troops engage the criminals and force their retreat.
The rescue was carried out by troops of the Nigerian Army with support from the Nigerian Air Force during intensified search-and-rescue operations under Operation FASAN YAMMA.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Major General Samaila Uba, Director Defence Information, troops sustained pressure on the criminal group and eventually made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, leading to the successful recovery of Mrs Abubakar.
The military disclosed that during the encounter, the fleeing bandits shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her under mounting pressure from advancing troops.
She was immediately evacuated from the area and taken to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively, according to the statement.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria said it remains committed to ensuring her full recovery and is providing necessary support to her family during the period.
The military further vowed to sustain ongoing operations aimed at tracking down and neutralising those responsible, while intensifying efforts to rid affected communities of terrorists and criminal elements in Katsina and across the country.
