Security forces operating under Operation UDO KA have uncovered a major arms cache linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Enugu State.
The operation was carried out by troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, the breakthrough was recorded during the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II aimed at consolidating peace and security in the South-East.
The statement disclosed that on June 9, 2026, troops acting on credible intelligence obtained from previously arrested IPOB/ESN suspects conducted a follow-up operation in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area.
During the operation, security forces discovered a concealed arms depot hidden inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery.
Items recovered from the hideout include General Purpose Machine Guns, an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas gun with cartridges, AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
According to Ayeni, all recovered weapons and arrested suspects have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and prosecution.
He noted that the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-driven inter-agency collaboration and reaffirmed the commitment of Operation UDO KA to dismantling criminal and terrorist networks threatening peace in the region.
The military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to sustain peace and security across the South-East.
