Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully repelled separate terrorist attacks in Zamfara State, neutralising several terrorists and recovering weapons and other items during coordinated operations in Maru and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas.
According to military sources, troops on Monday, June 9, 2026, responded swiftly to a terrorist attack in Kanoma District of Maru Local Government Area. Acting on intelligence, the troops moved to Kanoma Hill where they made contact with the terrorists.

A fierce firefight ensued, during which the troops overwhelmed the attackers with superior firepower, neutralising one terrorist. Following the encounter, troops recovered one rifle loaded with ammunition and seized two motorcycles believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.
In a separate operation, troops deployed in Kaura Namoda received credible intelligence about an ongoing terrorist attack on residents of Kungurki Village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. The terrorists were reportedly attempting to abduct villagers when the troops were alerted.

The soldiers immediately mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists upon arrival. The troops brought heavy fire to bear on the criminals, disrupting the attack and forcing the terrorists to retreat after suffering casualties.
A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one locally fabricated rifle, three rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, four cutlasses, and a mobile phone abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The successful operations underscore the sustained efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops to combat terrorism, protect vulnerable communities, and deny criminal elements freedom of action across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.

Military authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups and encouraged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
