What began as a simple errand of trust has spiraled into a heartbreaking story of trauma, fear, and survival for a 13-year-old girl whose life has been permanently altered.
The teenager, who was reportedly lured by someone she considered a friend under the pretext of delivering a message, is now at the centre of a deeply distressing case that has left her family shattered and struggling with both emotional and financial burdens.
According to the victim, she was taken under false pretences and later exposed to a situation that resulted in serious harm involving an adult male.
The incident has since raised major concerns about child safety, trust, and vulnerability within communities.
In a significant development, the suspected perpetrator has reportedly been arrested and is currently being held in remand at a correctional facility in Lafia, Nasarawa State, as investigations continue.
The family says they first discovered the pregnancy five months after the incident. However, she is now seven months pregnant, with the reality of the situation becoming increasingly difficult for the family to manage emotionally, medically, and financially.

The family also revealed that they were unaware of the full extent of her physical maturity at the time. They explained that the young girl began her menstrual cycle in September, which was the first time she experienced it.
According to the family, it was her friend who guided her on how to manage it initially, advising her on improvised ways of coping and discouraging her from informing her mother at the time. This detail, the family says, further highlights how the girl was gradually influenced and kept from open communication with her caregivers, a factor that contributed to her vulnerability and lack of timely support.
Doctors have reportedly informed the family that her chances of delivering naturally are uncertain, with a possible 50/50 outcome, and that a Caesarean section (CS) may be required to ensure safety for both mother and child.
However, this medical recommendation has placed an additional burden on the family, who say they are financially incapacitated and unable to meet the rising cost of care and delivery. The girl’s mother, a petty pepper hawker, is reportedly struggling to sustain daily survival needs while also managing hospital expenses.
Those close to the family describe the emotional toll as overwhelming. The once cheerful and active teenager has become withdrawn, while her family grapples with shock, uncertainty, and fear about the future.

Beyond the individual tragedy, the case has reignited urgent conversations around child protection systems, community vigilance, and the need for stronger preventive measures against exploitation of minors. It also highlights the difficult reality many vulnerable families face when medical emergencies collide with poverty, leaving them dependent on support they often cannot access.
As the young girl continues her medical journey, her family says their focus remains on her survival, recovery, and emotional healing.
They are calling for support, understanding, and justice as they navigate what has become one of the most difficult periods of their lives.
Her story stands as a painful reminder of how quickly trust can be broken, and how deeply the consequences can ripple through a family already struggling to survive.
