The African Democratic Congress has condemned the violent disruption of its party activities in Borno State, insisting that the inauguration of its state Transitional Committee was fully authorised.
The party said the inauguration, which produced Mallam Kashim Imam as chairman, was carried out in line with approvals from its National Working Committee.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to Abdullahi, the inauguration of the Transitional Committee and Membership Registration Committees complied with party guidelines.
“The inauguration was carried out in full compliance with the guidelines and authorisations issued by the National Working Committee of the party,” he said.
He condemned those who disrupted the exercise, describing their actions as inconsistent with ADC’s values and constitution.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the conduct of certain individuals who engaged in violent and disruptive actions aimed at frustrating a lawful party exercise,” Abdullahi stated.
He said the ADC would not allow its internal processes to be undermined by individuals acting without mandate.
“The ADC is a law-abiding political party governed by clear institutional rules,” he said.
Abdullahi urged law enforcement agencies to investigate the reported attacks on ADC members in Borno State.
“We call on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to act professionally and impartially,” he added.
He stressed that political violence must not be tolerated under any circumstance.
Abdullahi reaffirmed the party’s commitment to peaceful political organisation and internal democracy.
He said the ADC would take all necessary steps to protect its members and the integrity of the party.
