AIG Olaiya tasks Zone 7 officers on discipline, human rights, professionalism

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Victor Olaiya, has charged officers and men of the command to uphold discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights, describing discipline as the foundation of effective policing.
Olaiya gave the charge on Tuesday while delivering a lecture at the Zone’s General Lecture Parade themed, “Effective Policing Thrives Where Discipline is Upheld.”
Addressing personnel, the AIG said discipline remains the bedrock of accountability, professionalism and efficient service delivery in the Nigeria Police Force, urging officers to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities while demonstrating exemplary conduct both on and off duty.
He reminded the personnel that every police officer serves as an ambassador of the Force, noting that their behaviour, appearance, communication and professionalism directly shape public perception and confidence in policing.
The senior police officer therefore urged personnel to uphold the highest standards of integrity, courtesy, discipline and ethical conduct in all engagements with the public.
Speaking on human rights and quality service delivery, Olaiya reiterated the policing philosophy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, that “Citizens are the Boss.”
He stressed that policing is fundamentally service-oriented and called on officers to ensure that every interaction with members of the public is guided by professionalism, respect, empathy, fairness, accountability and strict adherence to the rule of law.
The AIG also briefed personnel on key resolutions reached at the recently concluded Strategic Management Meeting convened by the Inspector-General of Police, which brought together Commissioners of Police and other senior officers from across the country.
He urged officers to internalise the meeting’s resolutions and align their conduct, leadership and operational responsibilities with the strategic vision and policing priorities of the Inspector-General.
According to him, the General Lecture Parade is part of the Zone’s sustained efforts to strengthen professionalism, reinforce discipline and promote a people-centred policing culture capable of inspiring greater public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
