The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Navy have reaffirmed their commitment to closer operational collaboration as part of efforts to strengthen maritime security, intelligence sharing and the fight against crime across Lagos and Ogun States.
The renewed commitment was made on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Lagos, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Headquarters, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, at the Zonal Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, DSP Afolayan Gbenga, Anipr.
Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, who was accompanied by senior naval officers, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in the areas of coastal and maritime security.
He stressed the strategic importance of the maritime sector to Nigeria’s economic growth and national development, noting that sustained collaboration through intelligence sharing, maritime security operations and joint engagements remained vital to addressing emerging security threats.
The naval chief also reaffirmed the commitment of the Western Naval Command to deepening its partnership with Zone 2 Headquarters and the Nigeria Police Force in order to enhance national security and create a safer environment for Nigerians.
Responding, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh described the visit as a reflection of the cordial relationship and shared commitment among sister security agencies. He noted that Zone 2 Headquarters had maintained a productive working relationship with the Western Naval Command and the Nigerian Navy over the years.
The AIG commended the Nigerian Navy for what he described as its professionalism and significant contributions to national security, describing it as the best navy in Africa. He further emphasised that sustained inter-agency cooperation remains critical to tackling contemporary security challenges and assured the naval delegation of the command’s readiness to strengthen collaboration in protecting lives and property across Lagos and Ogun States.
The meeting also featured discussions between senior officers of both security agencies on intelligence sharing, operational coordination, maritime security and other issues of mutual interest aimed at improving national security.
Zone 2 Headquarters reiterated its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with sister security agencies and other stakeholders in the collective effort to combat crime, maintain law and order, and sustain peace and security across Lagos and Ogun States.
