The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on criminal networks, arresting a suspected gang leader and recovering additional arms in Ogidi.
The latest development follows an earlier operation on March 21, 2026, when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, arrested three suspects and seized weapons in the area.
Building on that success, police operatives, through sustained investigation and interrogation, apprehended the alleged ringleader of the syndicate, identified as 46-year-old Chukwuka Anene, who reportedly confessed to serving as the group’s armourer.
According to the Police, the suspect subsequently led operatives to the gang’s hideout in Ogidi, where a cache of weapons and incriminating items was recovered. The exhibits include two pump-action guns, two locally made Beretta pistols, five rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven live cartridges, a beret linked to a cult group, and body armour.
The Command said efforts have been intensified to track down other fleeing members of the gang, with investigations still ongoing.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Command urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible information to aid ongoing operations.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, assured that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
