The Delta State Police Command on Tuesday organised a walkathon in Asaba as part of ongoing activities to mark the 2026 National Police Week, aimed at promoting public safety and strengthening community policing.
The exercise, which began at the Command Headquarters on Okpanam Road and terminated at the Stephen Keshi Stadium before returning to the starting point, covered approximately 3.2 kilometres.

Officers and men of the Command participated in the event, while similar activities were replicated across the nine Area Commands in the state.
Addressing participants, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, said the walkathon was designed to reinforce police visibility and reassure residents of the Command’s commitment to their safety.
He stated: “The walkathon underscores the Command’s commitment to community-oriented policing and aligns with the theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Community Partnership: Building Trust.’”

The CP emphasised the importance of public support in policing, urging residents to partner with the Police by providing useful information and reporting concerns.
He assured that the Command remains “accessible, responsive, and actively engaged” in maintaining peace and security across the state.
