The Nigerian Army has deployed an emergency medical response team to Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State following a cholera outbreak in the community.
According to Lieutenant Emmanuel Maduabuchukwu, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 19 Brigade, the intervention is part of the Brigade’s commitment to supporting host communities through humanitarian assistance and civil-military cooperation.
During an operational visit to the affected area, the Acting Commander of 19 Brigade, Colonel EO Ikang, inspected the situation at the Cross Kauwa Primary Healthcare Centre and assured residents that the Army would continue to work closely with government agencies, health authorities and other stakeholders to contain the outbreak.
Ikang said the Brigade had earlier embarked on extensive environmental sanitation exercises across Kukawa and Cross Kauwa communities ahead of the rainy season to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases under its Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) programme.
He explained that immediately after the cholera outbreak was confirmed, the Brigade deployed its Medical Emergency Response Team to strengthen healthcare services in the affected community.
The team, he said, is providing medical personnel, essential drugs and supplies, medical consultations, laboratory diagnosis, treatment and other lifesaving interventions aimed at preventing further spread of the disease.
”The intervention reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment not only to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity but also to protecting the lives and well-being of citizens,” Ikang said.
He added that the Brigade would continue supporting efforts by relevant authorities to improve public health, security and socio-economic development within its area of responsibility.
Residents of Cross Kauwa who benefited from the emergency medical outreach commended the Nigerian Army for its prompt response, describing the intervention as timely and lifesaving.
They also pledged continued support and cooperation with security agencies in ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace, security and development across the North-East.
The Brigade said the intervention further highlights its commitment to strengthening civil-military relations and providing humanitarian support to vulnerable communities affected by emergencies.
