Frustrated residents of Biseni community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State took to the streets on Saturday, blocking a major road in protest over what they described as years of neglect and poor living conditions despite the oil resources produced in their community.
The protest drew the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, who visited the community alongside the Chairman of Yenagoa Local Government Council, Hon. Bulodisiye Ndiwari, to engage the protesting elderly women and youths.
The residents said their action was driven by frustration over the lack of basic amenities and what they considered prolonged underdevelopment in the oil-producing community.

However, the road blockade prevented other road users from passing through, prompting the police commissioner to appeal to the protesters to reopen the road and allow normal movement.
Adewale listened to the residents’ concerns before urging them to remain calm and pursue their demands through dialogue with the government and other relevant stakeholders.
He assured the community that the police would support peaceful engagement aimed at finding a lasting solution to the issues raised.
While acknowledging the residents’ grievances, the commissioner cautioned against actions that could threaten lives or disrupt public peace.

He urged the protesters to avoid putting themselves and other members of the public at risk, reminding them that the development they are demanding can only be enjoyed if lives are protected.

The police commissioner’s visit came as the residents continued to press for attention to the conditions in their community, with the authorities urging them to allow movement to resume while their concerns are taken up through the appropriate channels.
