The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged contractors handling the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II project to maintain construction standards and ensure timely delivery as work on the facility progresses.
Shaibu gave the charge on Friday, October 16, 2026, during an unscheduled inspection of the project to assess the pace of construction, quality of work and compliance with approved specifications.

The inspection forms part of efforts by the Nigerian Army leadership to address accommodation challenges facing personnel and their families, in line with the COAS’s Soldier First philosophy and commitment to improved troop welfare.
During the visit, the Army Chief inspected residential blocks, internal road networks, water reticulation systems and other facilities planned for the barracks. He also received briefings from project engineers and consultants on the level of progress, implementation challenges and projected completion timelines.

While expressing satisfaction with the progress recorded, Shaibu charged the contractors to sustain the momentum and deliver the project on schedule without compromising quality.
He emphasised that military infrastructure projects must provide lasting value and meet the accommodation and welfare needs of personnel and their families.

The COAS noted that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks, named in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, represents a significant step towards reducing accommodation shortages, improving living conditions and boosting the morale of Nigerian Army personnel.
He reaffirmed that providing modern residential facilities and other welfare infrastructure remained central to his vision of building a motivated, professional and resilient Army capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities.

Shaibu also pledged to sustain the monitoring of infrastructure projects across Army formations and barracks, adding that regular and unscheduled inspections would continue to promote quality delivery, transparency, accountability and value for money.
