The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has described the promotion of the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Benjamin Hundeyin, to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) as a defining moment for professional policing and strategic security communication in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday by Olalekan Olabulo, President of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN), the Association said the elevation of ACP Hundeyin reflects a deliberate reward for excellence, professionalism and intellectual rigour in public service, particularly in managing the increasingly critical interface between the Police and the Nigerian public.

CRAN noted that Hundeyin’s tenure as Force PRO has been marked by clarity of messaging, transparency and sustained engagement with the media, which have collectively strengthened public trust and improved understanding of police operations nationwide.
The Association specifically commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for approving the promotion, describing the decision as a clear demonstration of the Police leadership’s commitment to merit, competence and institutional excellence within the Force.
According to CRAN, ACP Hundeyin has distinguished himself through a strategic and responsible approach to information management, carefully balancing operational sensitivity with the public’s right to timely and accurate information, while redefining police-media relations through professionalism and openness.
The group added that the promotion serves as a significant morale booster for officers across the Nigeria Police Force, reinforcing the message that dedication, integrity and outstanding performance are recognised and rewarded.
CRAN expressed confidence that ACP Hundeyin would bring the same level of commitment, innovation and professionalism to his new rank and responsibilities.
The Association also reaffirmed its readiness to sustain its collaborative partnership with the Nigeria Police Force in advancing responsible crime reporting, public enlightenment and improved security communication nationwide.
