The Ministry of Defence has reiterated its commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigerian Navy through enhanced support and collaboration.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Richard Pheelangwah, disclosed this during a visit to the Naval Headquarters on Tuesday.

He commended the Nigerian Navy for its professionalism and role in protecting Nigeria’s maritime domain.
Pheelangwah said the visit was aimed at aligning the Ministry’s policies with the operational priorities of the Navy.

He emphasised the need for stronger civil-military collaboration to achieve national security objectives.
He added that the Ministry would support the Navy in critical areas such as force readiness, personnel welfare and budgetary processes.
In his response, the Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, commended the Ministry for its support.

He identified challenges including equipment procurement, infrastructure deficits and accommodation for personnel.
Abbas also called for increased recruitment, particularly of medical personnel, and funding to complete ongoing projects.
