ASABA – The Delta State Police Command has ordered the immediate redeployment of CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division, following serious allegations of a N2.5 million extortion involving officers under his command.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, has also directed the Command’s X-Squad to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. This directive follows a viral video featuring a complainant who alleged that three officers—identified as Bright, Usman, and the Jesse DPO—collected N2,500,000 from her to secure the release of her brother.
According to the Command, the incident began on January 1, 2026, when local youth leaders apprehended several suspects and handed them over to the police. Among those detained was 20-year-old Israel Onojeruo, the complainant’s brother. His arrest was reportedly based on a confession from another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who claimed he had sold a firearm to Onojeruo.
The suspects were eventually transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for further investigation. However, the subsequent allegations of financial misconduct prompted immediate intervention from the Command’s leadership.
In response to the viral claims, CP Adesola mandated the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the X-Squad to lead an internal probe.
The following actions have been taken:
- Detention: The police constable identified as “Bright” in the video has been detained at the Command Headquarters.
- Redeployment: CSP Chidi Nwabuzor has been removed from his post at the Jesse Division and redeployed to headquarters pending the investigation’s outcome.
The Command noted that the DPO’s removal was also influenced by a history of multiple complaints regarding unprofessional conduct and extortion from various quarters.
CP Adesola assured the public that any officer found guilty of misconduct will face decisive sanctions in accordance with the Police Act. He emphasized that his leadership maintains a zero-tolerance policy for extortion, intimidation, and incivility.
“The Command will not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct by its officers,” the Commissioner stated, adding that sanctions will serve as a deterrent to others.
Members of the public are encouraged to report police misconduct through the Command’s Complaint Response Unit using the following hotlines: 09011112311, 09155570008, 09064308018, and 09066575187.
