A 48-year-old man in Effurun, Delta State, has fought off two masked armed robbers who broke into his residence, wrestling with one of the suspects and causing the locally made shotgun he was carrying to break.
The incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on September 4 in the Charlisco area of NPA Express Road, Effurun.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the victim confronted the armed intruder in a courageous struggle before the firearm broke.
Edafe said the second suspect struck the victim on the forehead during the confrontation, after which both robbers fled, abandoning the broken firearm.
The incident was reported at Ekpan Police Division at about 6:14 a.m., prompting the Divisional Police Officer to deploy operatives to the scene.
The police recovered the locally made firearm, while the injured victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Command said a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation in Agbor, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Ubulu-Uku, arrested a 40-year-old woman, Joy Anthony, allegedly involved in the sale of illicit drugs.
Edafe said the suspect was arrested at about 5 a.m. on September 6 following credible intelligence.
A search warrant executed at her residence in Agbor-Obi reportedly led to the recovery of quantities of Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigation continues.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the 48-year-old victim for his courage in confronting the armed robbers.
Erale assured him that the suspects would be tracked down and arrested, while urging members of the public with useful information on criminal activities to contact the nearest police station or the Command Control Room on 08036684974, 08114895600 or 08025666914.
