Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military location in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack, which occurred on Monday, September 7, was contained by troops of the Nigerian Army with support from the Nigerian Air Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the troops held their positions despite the intensity of the assault.
According to Goni, the troops responded with sustained firepower and determined resistance, preventing the terrorists from breaching or overrunning the military position.

He said the attackers were eventually forced to withdraw with casualties, while military positions across Pulka remained firmly under the control of the security forces.
The operation was reinforced by air support from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, which provided Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance coverage to assist ground troops in monitoring the unfolding attack.
As the terrorists attempted to withdraw, the air component conducted precision strikes against identified hostile elements, disrupting their escape and frustrating attempts to regroup, the statement said.
The CJTF also provided local intelligence and supported troops in maintaining situational awareness during the operation.
Goni disclosed that one soldier sustained a gunshot injury to his left arm during the encounter.
He said the injured soldier was promptly evacuated, stabilised and was responding to treatment, with his condition reported as stable.
Following the withdrawal of the terrorists, troops commenced exploitation operations to assess the damage inflicted on the attackers, recover any abandoned weapons and equipment, and gather intelligence for follow-up operations against the fleeing elements.
Goni said the successful defence of the military position demonstrated the combat readiness and determination of troops operating in the theatre.
He added that troops remained deployed and on heightened alert across the area, while aggressive patrols, surveillance and offensive and defensive operations continued to deny terrorists freedom of movement and action.
The military urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information on suspicious persons, movements and activities to the nearest security formation.
Goni said the military remained committed to defeating terrorism, protecting the nation’s territorial integrity and creating the conditions necessary for sustainable peace and stability in the North-East.
