The Delta State Police Command has taken the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects into custody as part of investigations into the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.
The development brings to five the number of persons currently in police custody in connection with the investigation, according to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
Edafe, in a statement on Monday, said the Command had also intensified its manhunt for two key suspects whose presence was required to advance the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
The suspects being sought are Mrs Clementine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, the driver to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.
The Delta Police spokesperson said the Command was urging the two suspects, wherever they might be, to make themselves available to the police without further delay.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, impartially and professionally.
Edafe quoted the CP as assuring the family of the deceased and members of the public that due process would be followed and that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The Command expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and reiterated its commitment to establishing the circumstances surrounding his death through the ongoing investigation.
