The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has uncovered an alleged internet fraud training centre, popularly known as a “Yahoo Academy,” in the Federal Capital Territory, arresting 31 suspects during a sting operation.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by Dele Oyewale, Head Media and Publicity of the commission who confirmed that the operation was carried out on April 9, 2026.
The raid targeted a facility located in Becki Estate, Karu, within the Federal Capital Territory, where suspects were apprehended while undergoing internet fraud training.
According to the Commission, those arrested include two alleged kingpins and several trainees participating in cybercrime tutorials.
Items recovered from the scene include mobile phones, 18 laptop computers, and other digital gadgets suspected to be tools for fraudulent activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the recruits were lured from Benue State with promises of legitimate employment.
However, upon arrival, they were reportedly confined within the facility and introduced to internet fraud schemes using provided devices and software.
The EFCC further disclosed that the trainees were subjected to strict control measures, including restricted movement and confiscation of their phones to prevent outside contact.
There were also allegations of corporal punishment, with some recruits reportedly facing physical assault for non compliance.
The Commission stated that the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
