Police Crack Down on Gridlock in Ogun, Warn of Arrests for Traffic Offenders
Commuters and motorists in Ogun State may finally see relief from the choking traffic that has long plagued major corridors, as the State Police Command has launched an aggressive enforcement drive to restore order on the roads.
In a renewed push under its ongoing “Operation No Traffic Gridlock,” the Command has declared zero tolerance for all forms of road obstruction, blaming the persistent congestion in Sango Ota and Sagamu on indiscriminate parking and roadside trading.
The Police said motorists who engage in illegal parking, double parking, or stop arbitrarily on active lanes to pick or drop passengers would face strict sanctions. Traders displaying goods on roads and walkways were equally warned to vacate such spaces or risk arrest.
According to the Command, traffic personnel from the State Motor Traffic Department, Area Traffic Offices, and Divisional units have been strategically deployed across Sango Ota, Sagamu, Mowe, Ifo, and other parts of the state to enforce compliance and ensure the free flow of traffic.
While acknowledging that ongoing road construction in Sango Ota and Sagamu has contributed to the traffic situation, the Police stressed that adherence to traffic regulations remains critical to easing movement.
The Command, however, noted progress in Mowe and Ifo, where traffic congestion has been significantly reduced, assuring residents that the gains would be sustained.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, directed full enforcement of the operation, warning that violators would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring safety, orderliness, and smooth vehicular movement across the state.
Residents were also urged to support the initiative by complying with traffic rules and reporting suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
The renewed enforcement signals a decisive move by authorities to tackle one of the state’s most persistent urban challenges and restore sanity on Ogun roads.
