Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General (Dr.) Faruk Yahaya (rtd), has commenced legal proceedings over what he describes as false, malicious, and damaging allegations linking him to terrorism financing.
General Yahaya’s decision follows comments allegedly made by Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi (rtd) during a recent broadcast on Arise News, which were subsequently circulated by the online news platform, Sahara Reporters. The retired Army Chief has categorically denied these claims, asserting that they are entirely baseless and injurious to his hard-earned reputation and years of dedicated service to the nation.
Demand for Retraction and Apology
In a press statement released by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd), it was revealed that General Yahaya, through his legal team led by Mohammed Ndayako, SAN, has served formal demand notices to Major General Ali-Keffi (rtd), Arise News, and Sahara Reporters.
The notices, dated December 17, 2025, provide a 72-hour ultimatum for the parties involved to retract the allegations and publish unreserved public apologies. The legal team also demanded an immediate halt to the further circulation of these claims. The statement warned that failure to comply would lead to further litigation in court to seek appropriate redress.
The statement emphasized that this legal action is intended not only to protect the former Army Chief’s personal integrity but also to address the reckless dissemination of unverified accusations that undermine public trust in national institutions.
General Yahaya reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, accountability, and professionalism. He stated that he would not permit misinformation, driven by personal grievances or malice, to remain unchallenged, given the sensitive nature of the allegations and his history of service to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
