President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the constitution of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, appointed Deputy Director-General in charge of Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation.
According to a statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Works, Mohammed A. Ahmed, on Saturday, the council brings together political leaders, strategists and grassroots mobilisers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement said Umahi’s appointment places him in a strategic position within the campaign structure, particularly in the areas of infrastructure advocacy, political mobilisation and nationwide sensitisation.
It said the Minister would deploy his experience as a former deputy governor, governor and senator, as well as his current position as a minister, to promote the achievements and infrastructure projects of the Renewed Hope Administration.
The ministry said Umahi’s record in infrastructure development, political experience, extensive network and grassroots engagement would strengthen the campaign’s ability to communicate the administration’s achievements and mobilise support across the country.
The campaign council will be headed by Senator Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara State and serving senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, as Director-General.
The statement said the council also comprises former governors, serving senators, ministers, party leaders and other experienced grassroots mobilisers.
According to the ministry, the composition reflects the President’s effort to assemble a broad-based campaign structure with the experience, national reach and political capacity required ahead of the 2027 elections.
It added that the council’s structure underscores the importance attached to political mobilisation, grassroots sensitisation, infrastructure advocacy and national coordination in taking the message and achievements of the Renewed Hope Administration to Nigerians.
The ministry said the combination of Yari’s overall leadership and Umahi’s responsibility for infrastructure, mobilisation and sensitisation would position the council to drive a coordinated national campaign and deepen engagement with Nigerians.
The appointment of Umahi, it added, was in recognition of his leadership qualities, political experience and proven capacity in infrastructure development and national mobilisation.
