The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed thousands of security personnel across the nation’s capital ahead of the February 21, 2026 FCT Area Council Elections, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, credible, and violence-free exercise.
The large-scale deployment forms part of the Command’s comprehensive operational strategy designed to safeguard voters, election officials, and electoral materials before, during, and after the polls. The security arrangement involves a coordinated inter-agency effort, drawing personnel and operational support from sister agencies including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller G. Dantawaye, charged officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism while providing robust security coverage at all polling units and collation centres across the territory.
He emphasized the need for vigilance, neutrality, and respect for citizens’ rights throughout the electoral process.
According to the Command, a restriction of movement will be enforced across the FCT from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026. The restriction will exempt only essential service providers and duly accredited election officials.
Residents of the FCT have been urged to cooperate fully with security operatives and comply with all guidelines to ensure a seamless exercise.
The Police assured that adequate security measures have been put in place to guarantee that eligible voters can exercise their civic responsibility without fear or intimidation.
Members of the public are also encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities through the designated emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
