FCT Police identify officers accused of extorting N40,000 from resident

The FCT Police Command has identified and detained officers accused of allegedly extorting N40,000 from a resident along the Wuye-Utako Road, near Salem Church, in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Command said the development followed a video circulating on social media in which the resident alleged that police officers extorted the money from him.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the officers depicted in the video had been identified and were currently in custody.
Adeh said the Command had also invited the complainant to appear at the FCT Police Command Headquarters in Abuja to make an official statement that would assist the investigation and possible disciplinary action against the officers.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the Command would not tolerate extortion, abuse of authority, misconduct or other forms of unprofessional conduct by its personnel.
Sanusi warned that any officer found culpable after investigation would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action in line with extant laws and regulations.
The Command also urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to report cases of police misconduct and provide relevant information that could assist ongoing investigations.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to accountability, professionalism and respect for the rights of residents of the FCT.
