The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving road infrastructure across the country, with the Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, saying critical road projects remain central to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic development agenda.
Goronyo spoke on Monday at the flag-off of the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road at the Idi Ayunre axis of the road in Oyo State.
He described the project as a major step towards upgrading Nigeria’s road network and providing efficient transportation corridors for the movement of people, goods and services.
The minister said the dualisation would deliver significant economic benefits to Oyo and Ogun states by improving connectivity, reducing travel time, enhancing road safety and creating opportunities for trade, investment and employment.
According to him, the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, which places infrastructure development at the centre of efforts to strengthen the economy and improve citizens’ living conditions.
“The central train of development is moving fast under our progressive banner,” Goronyo said.
He noted that the strategic importance of the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode corridor could not be overemphasised, given its role in linking communities and supporting commercial activities across the South-West and beyond.
Goronyo commended the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for his leadership and commitment to ensuring that critical road projects receive the necessary attention and are delivered to standard.
He also praised the Oyo and Ogun state governments, traditional rulers, contractors, engineers and other stakeholders for their cooperation towards the commencement of the project.
The minister assured Nigerians that the Ministry of Works would continue to work with state governments and other stakeholders to deliver road projects efficiently and sustainably.
He said the ministry remained committed to expanding and rehabilitating the national road network to boost economic activities, strengthen national integration and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The Ibadan-Ijebu Ode dualisation is expected to improve transportation between Oyo and Ogun states, facilitate the movement of agricultural and commercial products, reduce congestion and travel time, and stimulate economic activities along the corridor.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by Umahi, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele; government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, contractors, engineers and other stakeholders.
