The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, has reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to improved, people-oriented security service delivery as he joined participants at the ongoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Capacity Building Workshop in Anambra State.
CP Orutugu made this known on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, during an on-the-spot assessment of the workshop designed to strengthen professionalism and operational effectiveness within the Nigeria Police Force.

The capacity-building programme, themed “Strategic Police Conduct Through Emotional Intelligence, Human Relations, Communication Skills, and Attitudinal Change,” is aimed at repositioning officers for modern, service-driven, and intelligence-led policing in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.

During his visit, the Commissioner interacted extensively with officers undergoing the training, evaluated the quality of lecture delivery, and assessed participants’ level of understanding and practical application of the lessons taught. He expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm, discipline, and professionalism displayed by the officers, describing the engagement as encouraging and reflective of a renewed commitment to excellence within the Force.

CP Orutugu commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Management of the Nigeria Police Force, alongside the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), for sponsoring the workshop. He also praised the facilitators and organisers for delivering in-depth, timely, and impactful lectures that address contemporary security and policing challenges.

According to the Commissioner, continuous capacity-building initiatives remain critical to equipping officers with modern policing skills, emotional intelligence, improved communication techniques, and enhanced community engagement strategies key elements required for effective policing in today’s dynamic security environment.
He urged participants to ensure that the knowledge and skills acquired during the training are translated into practical field operations, stressing that improved capacity must reflect in proactive policing, respect for human rights, professionalism, and increased public trust in the Police.

The Commissioner further assured residents of Anambra State that the Command would continue to support initiatives geared towards professional development, reaffirming its resolve to deliver efficient, responsive, and citizen-focused security services across the State.
The workshop, which commenced on Monday, January 19, 2026, is holding at Trig-Point Hotel, Awka, and has drawn participants from various departments and formations within the Anambra State Police Command.
