The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has congratulated cadets of the Nigeria Police Academy following their emergence as winners of the Debate Competition at the 2026 RIL Campus Crown Awards.
The cadets defeated contestants from several tertiary institutions across Kano State to clinch the coveted trophy in the highly competitive contest.
The RIL Campus Crown Awards is a youth-focused initiative designed to provide students with a platform to showcase their talents through leadership debates, sports competitions and other developmental activities aimed at promoting critical thinking, teamwork and responsible citizenship.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the Nigeria Police Academy team distinguished itself through intellectual depth, eloquence, analytical reasoning and exceptional public speaking skills during the competition.
Reacting to the victory, IGP Disu described the achievement as evidence of the effectiveness of the Academy’s academic and leadership development programmes.
The IGP noted that intellectual excellence remains a vital component of modern policing and commended the cadets for serving as worthy ambassadors of both the Academy and the Nigeria Police Force.
He encouraged them to sustain the values of excellence, discipline and professionalism that earned them the recognition.
While receiving the victorious team, the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Patrick A. Atayero, praised the cadets for bringing honour to the institution.

According to him, the victory reflects the Academy’s commitment to producing well-rounded officers equipped with professional competence and intellectual capacity required for effective policing and national service.
Atayero urged other cadets to pursue excellence in both academic and extracurricular activities, assuring them of the institution’s continued support in developing their talents and leadership potential.
He also reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to becoming a world-class institution dedicated to professional policing, leadership development and academic excellence.
The IGP further congratulated the management, staff and cadets of the Academy, reiterating the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening educational and leadership development initiatives aimed at building a professional, knowledge-driven and service-oriented police force.
