The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has met with the Secretary General of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), Mr Valdecy Urquiza, in Lyon, France, as Nigeria moves to strengthen international cooperation against transnational crime.
The meeting took place on Monday, October 5, 2026, during Disu’s maiden official visit as Inspector-General of Police to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, who disclosed this in a statement, said the engagement focused on strengthening cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and INTERPOL in tackling cybercrime, terrorism, financial crimes, organised crime and other cross-border criminal activities.
Iniedu said the discussions also covered fugitive tracking, intelligence sharing and the effective deployment of INTERPOL databases and other global policing tools.
According to him, the engagement provided an opportunity to review Nigeria’s participation in INTERPOL-supported initiatives and identify additional areas of technical and operational cooperation.

The Force PRO said the collaboration would further strengthen criminal intelligence analysis, cross-border investigations and efforts to disrupt transnational criminal networks.
Iniedu said Disu was accompanied on the visit by AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and National Central Bureau, Abuja; AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head of the Nigeria Police Counter Terrorism Unit; and CP Ojajuni Olubode, INTERPOL Africa Committee Member.

He said the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to strengthening its partnership with INTERPOL and other international law-enforcement agencies by leveraging intelligence, technology and global policing capabilities to confront evolving security threats.
Iniedu added that the collaboration would help deny criminal networks the opportunity to exploit national borders in carrying out their activities.
