The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across the country in a major personnel advancement exercise aimed at strengthening morale, rewarding excellence, and enhancing operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.
The promotion, one of the largest recent elevations of junior personnel in the Force, cuts across Commands and Formations nationwide and reflects the Police leadership’s commitment to improving officers’ welfare and career progression.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the exercise saw 165 Sergeants elevated to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals promoted to Sergeant, while 17,714 Constables advanced to the rank of Corporal.
IGP Disu described timely promotion as a vital component of the Force’s human resource management strategy, stressing that it remains an effective tool for motivating personnel and encouraging greater commitment to their constitutional responsibilities.
He noted that the promotion of deserving officers underscores the current Police leadership’s dedication to merit, professionalism, institutional development, and structured career advancement within the Force.
The Inspector-General congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to regard their elevation as a call to higher responsibility and service.

He charged them to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force by demonstrating professionalism, discipline, integrity, respect for human rights, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.
The Police chief further reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to promoting excellence, rewarding hard work, and strengthening institutional capacity in line with global best practices in policing.
