The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational, and intelligence assets to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a violent attack that claimed no fewer than 75 lives.
The Nigeria Police Force described the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as a grievous assault on peace and public safety, assuring Nigerians that the perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to justice. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday.

According to the statement, the IGP expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the Government and people of Kwara State, describing the incident as painful and tragic.
He reaffirmed the resolve of the Police Force to protect lives and property across the country.
Egbetokun noted that the immediate deployment to Kaiama and adjoining communities is aimed at restoring calm, reinforcing security presence, and preventing any further outbreak of violence in the area.

The Force has also launched an intensive manhunt for the attackers and all those connected to the crime, with investigations already underway.
The IGP assured that all available resources have been mobilised to ensure that those responsible are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted.
He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid ongoing operations, stressing that such information can be shared through nearby police stations or established police communication channels.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order nationwide, assuring citizens that no effort will be spared in safeguarding lives and ensuring justice for the victims.
