The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday charged newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to demonstrate integrity, discipline, and strategic leadership in tackling Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
Speaking at the decoration ceremony of the newly elevated senior officers, the police chief described their promotion as both a recognition of decades of dedication and a call to greater responsibility in the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu said the elevation to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest levels of professional trust within the Force, noting that the officers are now entrusted with providing institutional direction and strengthening reforms across commands.

“This ceremony represents far more than the adornment of new insignia. It is a solemn recognition of decades of dedicated service, professional excellence, and unwavering commitment to the ideals and responsibilities of policing in our country,” the IGP said.
He noted that the newly decorated officers now occupy critical positions within the strategic leadership structure of the Force and are expected to drive intelligence-led policing, deepen inter-agency cooperation, and strengthen operational coordination nationwide.
The police chief stressed that Nigeria’s security landscape continues to evolve with threats ranging from organised crime to cyber-enabled offences and violent criminal networks, making it imperative for the leadership of the Force to remain proactive and strategic.
According to him, the new DIGs must prioritise professionalism, accountability, and discipline while inspiring public trust and internal confidence within the Force.
Disu further urged the senior officers to see their elevation as a renewed call to national service, adding that their leadership style and decisions would shape the culture and public perception of the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP also reaffirmed ongoing efforts to reposition the police into a more professional, technologically driven, and citizen-focused institution capable of meeting Nigeria’s growing security demands.
He expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support in strengthening the operational capacity of the police as part of broader national security reforms.
Disu also commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process within the Force.
The police chief equally acknowledged the families of the newly promoted officers for their sacrifices and support throughout the distinguished careers of the senior police officials.
He concluded by urging the newly decorated DIGs to lead with honour, serve with integrity, and remain steadfast in upholding the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.
The decoration ceremony took place on Monday as part of the leadership transition within the Nigeria Police Force.
