The walls appear to be closing in on the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) as two high-profile commanders have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI following relentless military offensives across the North-East.
The surrendered terrorists, identified as Ismail Mohammed and Abu Umar, reportedly laid down their arms on June 8, 2026, in what military authorities described as another major victory in the war against terrorism.

According to Operation HADIN KAI, both men occupied strategic positions within the insurgent group and possessed valuable operational knowledge.
While Ismail Mohammed was said to be a close ally of senior ISWAP leader Baa Shuwa, Abu Umar reportedly served as a bomb-making expert responsible for vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices and other combat-support equipment.
In another significant revelation, military authorities disclosed that Mohammed Khalifa, a member of the ISWAP Shurah Council, was neutralised during recent joint operations.
”The surrender of the two commanders represents a major setback to the terrorist organisation, particularly given their experience, influence and technical expertise acquired over several years within the insurgent network,” the statement noted.

The military said the development reflects growing desperation among terrorists as sustained ground and air offensives continue to deny them safe havens and operational freedom.
Operation HADIN KAI pledged to maintain pressure on insurgent elements until lasting peace is restored across the region.
